Two Projects Completed and One to be Finalised in Albania

As the summer fast approaches we have been busy finishing off two of our three projects currently on going in Albania.
Firstly, we have just finalised the project products for the Regional Waste Management Plan for the Waste Area of Fier in west central Albania which is part of the Co-Plan Institute for Habitat Development, Tirana managed project funded by the Embassy of the Netherlands. The beneficiary is the Municipality of Fier and we hope to return to that project for a week or so in September to make a film about the new three bin system to be employed in the waste area as part of a pilot project in improved waste management. The three bin system will consist of brown for organic waste for composting, green or blue for dry recyclable material and black or grey for residuals non recyclable material. There will also be a conference in September to launch the project products and hopefully showcase the film on the three bin system. There are more details and photographs of the project here.
Secondly, we managed to complete a short project with Danish company COWI in regard to the environmental assessment of the Tirana University Hospital Centre - Mother Teresa. This project was part of the Balkan Infrastructure Framework Projects and we were delighted to finish the project on time and to the satisfaction of both the beneficiary and donor. The project involved carrying out an assessment of the current environmental practices at the TUHC and making recommendations for mitigating measures as appropriate. Lastly, but by no means least, in Albania we have been heavily engaged with Grontmij Carl Bro on an EU funded project with a significant waste management component. The full details of the project and some associated photographs can be viewed here. However, our involvement has involved the development of a National Waste Management Plan for Albania and the development of two regional waste plans for two waste areas in Albania and in this latter regard we have chosen to develop plans for the waste area of Tirana and the waste area of Elbasan. Beofre going on annual leave we managed to complete the following project reports:
